Kostas, a 75-year-old diver, salvages wrecks from a ships’ graveyard off industrially scared Elefsina while a joyful “chorus” of local women comment during their daily sea swims. When the city is selected as the Cultural Capital of Europe, Kostas plans to turn the rusting hulk “Persephone” into an international attraction – a marine “underworld” that mirrors Hades. But then everything suddenly changes. A hauntingly beautiful and humorous allegory about decay, reinvention, and the ambivalent human spirit.
